ITINERARY OF SIDERURGY<\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]The Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley has joined the Pyrenees Iron Route, a cross-border iron route in the Pyrenees, which received a Council of Europe award.<\/p>\n

The Pyrenees are a region rich in iron with a long siderurgy, source of economic wealth. The forests, mines and industrial buildings resulting from this economic activity have left a deep imprint on the landscape and on the urban fabric of the Pyrenean region. The Pyrenees Iron Route aims to offer the public the keys to understanding the history of iron, its production and its elaboration, through the study, conservation and dissemination of this heritage which includes mines, coal kilns, forges, workers’ and contractors’ houses, iron architecture and contemporary sculptures.<\/p>\n

The Iron Route gathers around a common itinerary several areas of five neighboring regions: the Principality of Andorra, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Languedoc-Roussillon and Aquitaine.<\/p>\n

The route through the cultural landscape of the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley has an approximate duration of 6 hours, during which we will discover the remains of some of the places where the wood was turned into charcoal, the ruins of the forge which produced the iron, and the paths traced to give an exit to the metal which was distributed in Catalonia.<\/p>\n
