WINTER SPORTS

The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley provides an unbeatable setting for practising ski mountaineering or walking with snowshoes, but they are practices that are not free of danger, particularly in this valley where there are still many areas without mobile phone reception.

Although they are sports that are available to many people, this does not mean they are easy, especially in the case of ski mountaineering. They require good knowledge of the environment and of the basic techniques to practice them safely to be able to enjoy the incredible sensations they can offer. The valley is a high mountain area and the snow can hide unpleasant surprises. As well as knowledge of skiing, you need to have basic mountain knowledge. Specifically, you should have basic notions of orientation, know how to read a map, meteorology, first aid, etc.

Ski mountaineering is not a sport that is free from risk: you can fall while descending, fall in alpine areas with steep inclinations, fall down a drop in height that the snow has hidden, etc. Before planning a route on snowshoes or ski mountaineering through the valley, you should be very knowledgeable about the area and have adapted equipment. Above all, you should pay particular attention to the natural dangers of the mountain as they are not signposted. There can be natural or accidental avalanches due to slight overloads (the passing of an animal, for example). In fact, the area between Ràmio and Fontverd is a particularly active area. But it is not the only one. Therefore it is essential to consult the weather conditions and the avalanche report before each trip.

In any case, users should be aware that they are doing so under their own responsibility.
